Information Cards & OpenID
In case you have no idea what OpenID is, it is a way of managing your online identity in the sense that if you have one, and the site you are visiting supports OpenID and requires you to login to contribute to a discussion, you don't have to sign-up or register with that site and you don't have to create yet another username and password for that particular site. All you have to do is use your OpenID and you are automatically in. It basically makes site registration simple by using a universally recognized identification system.
Information Cards, however, is somewhat like OpenID. The only difference is that it is developed by Microsoft while OpenID is developed by the Open Source community.
Do they work together? Well, MyOpenID.com has included support for Information Cards. So in a sense, yes, they do. However, I have not yet read any articles pertaining to Information Cards providers that include OpenID support.
I just can't help but ask, how would Microsoft generate revenue from Information Cards? The question is inevitable, and the answer is simple, if you exert effort in positing and thinking about how to make revenue with it. However, I have no inclination, nor any conviction, to research, analyse, and speculate about it. It's Microsoft. There's got to be a catch. I just don't think I'll be taking a bite on their bait.
Anyway, all I can say is good luck to the developers of both technologies. I have successfully made my domain into my OpenID, thanks to their efforts, and I eagerly await the Internet fully embracing a technology designed to unite every single entity connected to it.
